A restaurant inspired by the Japanese design principle, miegakure, which means “to glimpse into something hidden.” The interior is composed of a sequence of unfolding scenes that create a sense of curiosity and anticipation. Framed views and drop ceilings are layered in intentional asymmetry to establish a hierarchy within the restaurant and distinguish lounge, bar, dining, and private spaces.
Indirect lighting through linear reveals in the walls and ceiling is diffused throughout the space. The resulting dim effect contrasts sparkling chandeliers hung in private dining nooks and the bright city lights outside. A hierarchy is developed by the various fixtures to distinguish casual and formal dining spaces.
The indoor bar extends to an outdoor lounge space with patio seating and a counter that visually connects with the bar inside. Two separate spaces visually become one.
